Before you choose
Four checks for a plan that fits your trip.
Data for the whole trip or per day?
10 GB total is one allowance for the package. 1 GB/day is a daily allowance. Check the reset rules and what happens after the allowance: slower data, extra charges or no connection.
When does validity start?
Installation and activation can be separate steps. Check whether the clock starts at purchase, installation or first connection. Choose enough valid days for your stay.
Where can you connect?
Check every country on your route and the networks listed for the exact package. A country in the coverage list does not guarantee a signal everywhere.
Will it work for your setup?
Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. If you need laptop data, verify hotspot permission. Confirm any calls, texts or phone number separately.

Which eSIM is best for your Japan trip?
Start with your travel dates and how you use your phone. The cheapest one-day package may suit an arrival day; a two-week trip needs a plan whose validity covers the whole stay.
Match the allowance to your travel days
Compare a whole-trip allowance with another whole-trip allowance. A 1 GB/day package resets by its stated period; a 1 GB total package gives you one shared allowance until it is used or expires. Use our data calculator for a planning estimate, then shortlist two or three plans with enough validity. Hotel Wi-Fi, video calls and laptop use can change your needs.
Read the limit behind unlimited
Saily’s Japan unlimited product currently lists 5 GB per day without a speed limit, followed by data at up to 1 Mbps. This is a provider example, not a rule for every unlimited plan. Check the daily reset, reduced speed and hotspot conditions of the exact package before choosing it for work or streaming.
Install and activate at the right time
Saily describes activation on arrival with its eSIM and roaming enabled. Its regular plans have a 180-day activation window, after which they activate automatically; subscription plans activate on purchase. Other providers may start validity differently. Check your exact device’s eSIM support and carrier lock, and follow the selected provider’s installation instructions over a stable connection.
Check the route, including South Korea
For Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, compare the networks listed for Japan. A 5G label in a package name does not prove that its Japan network supports 5G. If your trip continues to South Korea, open full coverage and verify both countries in the same package, or compare separate country plans. A coverage entry does not guarantee a signal at every location.
Provider information checked 10 October 2026 by MyBesteSIM. This is a comparison of published conditions, not a field test. Confirm the selected package at checkout. Our methodology.
Visiting another country on this trip?
Compare separate plans for your next stop, or check that a regional package covers every destination. These links do not mean your selected plan includes the other countries. Check total cost and validity for your complete route.
Frequently Asked Questions about eSIM for Japan
How much data do I need for 7 or 14 days in Japan?
As a planning example, our regular-use profile assumes 0.5 GB per day plus a 20% buffer: 4.2 GB for seven days or 8.4 GB for fourteen. That rounds up to a 5 GB or 10 GB total package. These are estimates, not measured usage. Video uploads and laptop work can need more. Match validity to your full stay; a daily quota is not the same as this whole-trip allowance.
Can I use the same eSIM in Japan and South Korea?
Check that the exact package lists both Japan and South Korea. A Japan-only coverage entry does not establish coverage for the next country. Compare a regional package with two country packages using the complete price and travel dates. Check what starts validity; crossing the border does not necessarily restart it.
Should I install my Japan eSIM before flying?
Read the selected package’s installation and activation policy first. Installation, first network connection and purchase can be different events, and providers do not all start validity the same way. Complete any permitted advance installation with a stable connection, then follow the provider’s arrival instructions. Keep the installation details available offline.
